A Beautiful Warrior

Martha was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in May 2021. It was shocking news for her and her family as she was doing okay  with no major health issues other than a regular cold. Since then, she has been receiving chemotherapy once a month, causing her good and bad days.

During the good days, she likes to spend time with her family outdoors, go to eat, and of course, like any other woman, she likes to go shopping too. Her favorite things to shop are clothes and makeup.

Martha loves to cook Mexican food. Her favorite dishes are mole, enchiladas, caldo de pollo (chicken soup), and gorditas. You won’t believe it but Martha makes her own Mole sauce which includes 17 ingredients. She learnt the secret Mole recipe from her mother and now she has passed it to her daughters. She also loves to bake. She makes the most amazing cakes, empanadas, and gorditas de azúcar. All of her grandkids have been blessed to enjoy her tasting food.

Unfortunately her days are not the same like they used to. Chemotherapy is causing a lot of side effects such as nausea, stomach pain, neuropathy,  weakness, and fever almost every day that won’t let her be active or cook. But fortunately, Martha has her daughters and son that love and care for her every day and fight this disease with her.

Martha is a very strong woman. She has gone through many challenges during the past five years and has never given up. She’s definitely a warrior.
